Security is a means to an end, and not an end in itself. As security professionals, we need to be an enabling factor to your business’ ability to provide it’s products and services, and not a stumbling block.
There are a myriad of standards, regulations and frameworks in cybersecurity, but they need to be applied in the context of your business. Identification of vulnerabilities doesn’t always equate to material risk – security threats and vulnerabilities need to be viewed and applied with a business-driven lens.
Client-focused
To accurately understand the business need for a security solution, we believe in listening to clients, and reaching a middle ground on a solution roadmap, balancing security best practices with risk tolerance.
In a simple example, if a 20 character password policy is recommended as best practice, as opposed to 8 characters, an acceptable middle ground might be 10-12. Anything longer might take unnecessary time and resource to implement.
Strategic, Not Just Tactical
Most security professional are known to be tactical thinkers, working through linear plans to address issues and needs.
To mitigate shortcomings in the future, we see the importance of being strategic, not just tactical. A strong security function, enables going concern; it devises future vision and understands how security enables that vision.
